Formed at the end of 2006 (in recent form) Milgram’s 27 (M27 fer short) brings together a mixture of influences from rock, reggae, jazz, pop, and soul. Covers range from the 50′s to the present and include Bob Marley, Coldplay, Ben Harper, Marvin Gaye, Violent Femmes, Van Morrison, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Costello, Hank Sr., maybe even some Bon Jovi (We can all just really relate to that Jon Bon Jovi and the lyrical and songwriting genius that he has become! though, I think Rob just likes his chest hair:-), etc. Songwriting style is just a combination of all these influences with a tendency for silly social commentary and serious… well there’s nothing really serious. Just a few guys that like to make music, or noise (you say toe mae toe I say ta mot oh), shoot the bull (Literally we’re bull hunters, though Todd retired last year after a bull with a bullet proof vest stuck a horn… well there are some things you just shouldn’t discuss on a myspace page , and have a good time. Thanks for checking in on us, JAS ps I was just joking about Rob liking Bon Jovi’s chest hair, but Todd really did take a horn in the ass from a bull jk:-0 :-l … sorry sometimes i just get emotional when I type. THE NAME… The name is a reference to a 1961-62 social psychology experiment on obedience by Stanley Milgram. If you are feeling lazy that’s all you need to know…. if you wanna look it up, here ya go…… just copy and paste the following link to your browser you nosy little thing…. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

Armed with a harmonica, washboard and guitar, Freddie Vanderford can interpret most any blues, folk, soul, Americana or Rock and Roll song. With astounding harmonica licks taught to him by the late medicine show performer and Piedmont blues harpist, Peg Leg Sam, Vanderford can immediately captivate any audience.

In May of 2010, Vanderford was awarded the Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award for maintaining and sharing the tradition of the Piedmont Blues harp. Performing Greasy Greens on the floor of the SC State House, Vanderford brought the Legislature to an immediate standing ovation.

Vanderford entertains audiences playing solo or with fellow musicians such as Brandon Turner, Steve McGaha, Matthew Knights Williams, Fayssoux McLean, David Ezell and many others. His discography includes Piedmont Blues, recorded with Brandon Turner and Vanderford and Turner are featured on Story, Song and Image: Celebrating the Roots and Ethnic Music of South Carolina. His music is also featured on Feel the Presence: Traditional African American Music in South Carolina and in Stan Woodward’s film BBQ and Homecooking, a documentary on foodways in the state.

Whether he’s playing harmonica on Pink Anderson’s Chicken or playing the washboard to Pink Floyd’s The Wall, Vanderford’s rhythmic, rootsy style enthralls listeners of all ages. Vanderford’s mastery of his craft enables him to coolly shift from melodic ballads such as Johnny Cash’s I Still Miss Someone to Jimi Hendrix’s heart-thumping Purple Haze.

Be sure to see this great blues man every chance you get! “He really is one of South Carolina’s true treasures,” – SC State Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter

An occasional jam session between friends is growing into an organized event for music lovers and families. Four years ago, some friends and neighbors started meeting at the Duncan Park stage to play music. It was an opportunity to express themselves while playing for their families in a non-threatening environment. “It was kind of selfish at first,” said Pepper Graham, a member of the band Pure Speculation who started playing with friends in Duncan Park in 2006. “It was our band playing for our friends and families, and now it’s turning into a networking event for musicians.” It’s not only for musicians and their friends anymore. It’s turned into a community event that invites families to come out, spread their blankets or set up lawn chairs and enjoy the atmosphere.

Graham describes Pure Speculation’s music as inspirational rock, and said some of the other bands playing this weekend could be considered blues, funk, country and a cross between country and rock.

Formed in the early spring of 2005 in Spartanburg, South Carolina Marc Higgins Band is already becoming an upstate “must hear and see” with other regions soon to follow. Having Toured in support of their 2006 debut CD “Change is Good”; Marc Higgins Band has already made fans out of first time listeners. Their no gimmick attitude and entrancing live performances draw audiences closer with each song. Following “Change is Good” comes Marc Higgins Band 2007 cd release “Slow Moving Train”. As a seasoned songwriter, Marc Higgins shows depth and much diversity using tasteful guitar licks, raw harmonica melody and alluring lyrics .”Slow Moving Train” is a well documented record of marc Higgins ever evolving and well crafted song writing. Relating personal experiences into his songs and sticking to the idea of “only write what you know”, “Slow Moving Train” is a testament to the wide spectrum of Marc’s regional influence only found in the upstate of South Carolina’s Bourgeoning music scene. With songs like Sweet Carolina, Waiting for you There, Dream and She never Pretends, Marc Higgins engineers “Slow Moving Train” down the urban Americana tracks. Followed by Marc Higgins is drummer Michelle Lee. Michelle has played with Marc Higgins for over ten years in such bands as The Turnaround and the Edmonds. Michelle is a faithfully tight and steady drummer always playing to a mass appeal; this girl likes to be heard! Keith Wilkins is the man on bass! With an eclectic background in such bands as Deja Blue and The Giants. This is one electrifying rhythm section! This puzzle can only be completed with the haunting harmonies of Courtney Johnson. Courtney’s sultry backing vocals compliment and complete MHB’s southeast sound thus bringing depth and unison to this Spartanburg based band.

In today’s ever expanding market of musicians and musical acts, finding true roots music built on heritage and yet staying original becomes harder and harder to find. Herein lies the foundation for one of the most explosive blues acts coming out of the Southeast today, the Shane Pruitt Band.

Lead man Shane Pruitt hails from Spartanburg, SC, where the musical roots of the blues and southern rock have been living and breathing for years on end. Birthing such musical talents and styles like those of Toy Caldwell and The Marshall Tucker Band, David Ball, Champ Hood, Walter Hyatt, and many others, Spartanburg has named Shane Pruitt its “Instrumentalist of the Year” for seven years and running.

Living and breathing the blues and gospel, The Shane Pruitt Band embodies a regional tradition while bringing its original tone and flare to every performance. Finding itself ever-searching in musical traditions between Delta Blues, Gospel, and Southern Rock, The Shane Pruitt Band embraces in the Jam Band traditions of improvisation and an ever-evolving musical experience. Picking up momentum with every performance, Shane Pruitt and his trio are driving towards uncharted waters while wowing critics everywhere they play.

Coming off of the new, 2nd studio release, “State of Grace“, the band has made friends and colleagues across the board with their soulful sound. Having shared the stage with such greats as Johnny Winter, Junior Brown, Chuck Raney, Victor Wooten,Galactic, Papa Mali, The Neville Brothers, The Lee Boys, Roosevelt Collier, Oteil Burbridge, Mose Allison, Michael Burks, The New Mastersounds and many, many more, Shane Pruitt is a name to be known amongst the insiders of the southern music scene.

The members share their own place in music history as well. Hammond B3 player and vocalist Lil’ Jimmy Peterman is a founding member of the Steve Miller Band (1967-1969), having also been a founding member of the Steve Miller Blues Band (featuring Steve Miller and Bozz Scaggs’ original colaboration). Shane’s prior colaboration, Flat Front Tire, was also a fixture in small club touring throughout the late 90′s and early milleneum. Drummer Bill Fletcher has seen many years at the backline, playing and touring with Robin Rogers before joining his first collaboration with Peterman and blues singerWanda Johnson, known as Cocktail Frank.

The band is proud to boast their place in the Top 10 Regional Albums of the Year for WNCW 88.7 FM in 2008 for their self-titled release “The Shane Pruitt Band”. The album took the #7 spot on the list, beating out a phenomenal list of competitors from throughout the region. The album has seen critical acclaim from a number of local newpapers and weekly publications, and the band is excited about its brand new album, “State of Grace”, and its sudden rise into the spotlight.
